Where’s Cshel?
Posted on 17. Jul, 2007 by Carolyn Shelby.
I’m sorry I’ve been so absent from the blog lately. Work-work has been a little crazy, I’ve been working on some other projects on the side, plus we had a death in the family the week of July 4… so I’ve just been crazy busy and not able to find time to put together any cogent thoughts on search or pr.
So, why am I posting this? The point of this post is to let everyone know that this is, in fact, not a post-post, but just a notice that I’m still not post-posting because I’m about to leave for Omaha, Nebraska to meet with our programmers in hopes that we can get the kinks worked out of our new site and get it launched sometime soon.
While I’m in Omaha, I’m going to try to grab lunch with Brian Mark from SEO 101 – Beginning SEO Podcast. If anyone else is in the area and wants to catch me while I’m in town, just email me!
I’ll be leaving for ORD in about an hour, and I should be in Nebraska by 9:45p tonight. If I get bored, I might twitter or pownce or even update facebook (or hell, I might blog a little too). I’m not 100% sure my hotel has internet access, but I know I can get online at the airports. I’ll try my best to keep connected.

Nerdiness Check: Supreme Nerd
Posted on 02. Jun, 2007 by Carolyn Shelby.
So apparently, I’m a Supreme Nerd… and yet, somehow I suspect there are people out there, at this very moment, saying, “Dar. Ya think?”
Scott Clark tagged me in a “Nerdiness Quiz” meme thing, so I felt compelled to take the quiz and show the world, that I am, in fact, not a nerd. Sadly, I am, in fact, a great big huge nerd. Witness my score of 92% (Supreme Nerd). Honestly, I thought I’d score lower. I didn’t recognize the dude in the one picture. I don’t know what the E or the M or the C stand for. I’m not even currently using a computer that I built from parts… today. (Though I think perhaps I did make the cables that connect the wireless router to the cable modem… it’s not nerdy to make your own cables. I mean really.)
I would like to point out for the record that I no longer have a teletype in my living room, nor am I still in possession of the z29, or any 300 baud modems (though I might have a 56k external in the garage someplace). The Amiga was never mine to begin with and it got tossed forever ago. The oscilloscope wasn’t mine either, and it’s not in the garage anymore anyway. The worst nerdy thing I’ll cop to is that I am a not-so-in-the-closet Trekkie, and I might maybe have a gold plated Communicator Badge and lieutenant commander collar pips.
I think this quiz is broken and, much like the scale at the doctor’s office, it lies. I am not a Supreme Nerd… (though it makes me feel much better that Jason Bartholme scored higher than me and is a Nerd God).
So… here are the people I’m tagging…
- Brian Mark (because I know he’s a bigger nerd than I am)
- Brian Vuyk
If I can think of more people to tag I will add them… right now I’ve run out of Brians.

Cshel’s Google Search Activity by Trends
Posted on 25. May, 2007 by Carolyn Shelby.
Barry Schwartz posted screen captures of his Google search activity today and tagged a few people to do the same, yours truly included. The quantity of my searches pale in comparison to Barry’s, but I think that might be because I make a point of logging out so things don’t get recorded, and also because while I’m at the office because I tend to work mostly on the work laptop that’s connected to the heavily monitored intranet.
Why does that make a difference? <Officially and For The Record> I try to only do work related searches and work related activities because if I’m doing something other than work related things, someone will notice, and that probably would be frowned upon.</Officially and For The Record> I do try to behave sometimes, you know.
So on to the self-analysis… I’m surprised by how much my searching spikes on Tuesdays. I’m trying to think of an obvious reason why and I’m coming up bla… oh wait. Show prep. Duh. I bet that’s it. I start doing searches for social related stuff on Tuesday so I can ask at least moderately intelligent questions on Rush Hour on Wednesday. That at least explains the last month or so, anyway.

Hourly… Hourly is pretty much what I expected. I’m generally unconscious between midnight and like 5:30a (well… when I get up on time anyway… sometimes I sleep til 7)… then I’m in the car for an hour or so… so all of my searches start when I get to the office between 8 and 9, and then they taper off about when I leave the office to drive home. I haven’t been getting much time online in the evenings lately. So really, the only time I’m searching is during business hours.
Hrm… scouring buddy lists for victims… Who to tag, who to tag. Okay, got my list.
Tag, you’re it.
